Description
River Hospital is seeking a Medical Records Clerk to work in our Health Information Management (HIM) Department full-time. 

Job Purpose

The Medical Record Clerk, under the supervision of the Director of HIM, performs all daily clerical functions including but not limited to: chart assembly, chart deficiency, chart tracking and chart completion of all River Hospital medical records, inpatient, outpatient, paper and electronic.  They assist with data collection for Quality Improvement projects interdepartmentally and hospital wide.  The Medical Record Clerk is responsible for identifying and informing the Director of HIM of any issues, problems or concerns relating to Medical Records, Providers or the Hospital.  They will maintain current and accurate filing of all record keeping systems. They will monitor Provider’s incomplete documents while ensuring that the Provider completes all reports and signatures according to current policy thereby ensuring continuity of patient care and compliance with both state and federal regulations.  The Medical Record Clerk will process requests for release of information according to HIPAA law and established policies.

Qualifications

  •  High School Graduate or Equivalent
  • Medical Terminology knowledge
  • Transcription experience required
  • Familiarity with computer programs – Windows, Word, Excel
  • Comfortable learning multiple Electronic Medical Record software programs
  • Minimum of 1-3 years’ experience in medical record processing
  • Ability to type 40-45 words per minute
  • Good communication, reading, and writing skills
  • Preferred experience with on-line computerized master patient index
  • Preferred experience with serial unit filing
