Job Responsibilities
- Evaluate clients' emotional, behavioral, and mental health issues related to trauma.
- Develop and implement individualized treatment plans for clients with a history of trauma.
- Utilize evidence-based therapeutic techniques such as Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Prolonged Exposure (PE) or other trauma-focused interventions.
- Provide crisis intervention services as needed for clients experiencing acute distress.
- Facilitate individual and group therapy sessions that are trauma-informed and sensitive to clients' experiences.
- Assess clients' progress and adjust treatment plans accordingly.
- Maintain thorough and confidential records of clients' treatment plans and progress.
- Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to provide a holistic approach to trauma therapy.
- Offer psychoeducation to clients and their families regarding trauma and its effects.
- Stay current with the latest research and developments in trauma therapy and incorporate them into practice.
- Advocate for clients and connect them with additional resources such as support groups or community services.
- Ensure a safe and supportive therapy environment that upholds the highest ethical standards and respects client confidentiality.
- Conduct outreach and education programs to raise awareness about trauma and its impact on individuals and communities.
- Supervise and train interns or less experienced therapists in trauma-informed care practices.
- Participate in professional development opportunities
Job Requirements
- Master's degree in Psychology, Counseling, Social Work, or related field
- State licensure as a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW), Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), or equivalent
- Certification in trauma therapy (e.g., EMDR, TF-CBT, Somatic Experiencing) preferred
- Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience working with trauma survivors
- Proficiency in various therapeutic modalities and techniques specific to trauma treatment
- Demonstrated ability to conduct thorough trauma assessments and develop treatment plans
- Experience with crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques
- Familiarity with the impact of complex trauma on individuals across the lifespan
- Knowledge of legal and ethical issues related to counseling trauma survivors
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to create a safe and supportive therapeutic environment
- Commitment to ongoing professional development and training in the field of trauma therapy
- Ability to work with diverse populations and cultural sensitivity
- Capacity to collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of healthcare professionals
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and in accordance with HIPAA regulations
Other Characteristics
- Ability to organize and carry out new programs and procedures.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS).
- Complies with all DOH, OMH and Justice Center requirements.
- Completes Justice Center Mandated Reporter Training and Code of Conduct annually.
